Dubulo - Mini Glow Edition

The new glow version of our Mini Dubulo delivered by the glow POM material, we realized that this would be an ideal opportunity to bridge across into the domain of light up toys, without the dizzying complexity of LEDs and batteries. This new version delivers exceptionally well, providing the same super flowy experience you know from our Delrin Mini Dubulo, but with the added impact of a strong, long-lasting glow from the best available modern polymers. For this round, we opted to only produce the Dubulo in the white (green glow) material, since it provides the brightest glow, and the most visibility during the fast paced swinging and slinging of Dubulo flows.

The glow edition comes strung on a 1.8mm Kevlar cord, which is perfect for this setup. These beauties will ship on our new custom 2mm cotton cord, along with the K1.8 cord, which provides a bit more friction for anyone just starting out or wanting slightly slower play.

The glow Mini Dubulo will ship with with two additional strings, a carry bag, an info card, and a couple of stickers.

Details:

  • Includes two "knuckles" ~27mm in diameter, and two cylindrical grips 11x11mm
  • "knuckle" bead weight: ~12.6g (yes, they do make serviceable begleri, but a bit awkward due to the size)
  • Small grip bead weight: ~1.1g
  • Full set weight: ~31.6g
  • Bore size on all beads is 3.5mm
  • Ships on AO2's 275 cord, and includes Kevlar 1.8mm accessory cord as spare/ alternative

More general information can be found below, and for anyone interested in the full narrative and some moving visuals of these beauties, have a look at the June 2024 drop preview video, time stamped below.

General Info on Dubulo

Dubulo is about as simple as a toy can be. It consists of two large balls tethered on a string, with two small beads at either end that serve as grips or counterweights. The design of the toy allows players to integrate elements of play from a number of other skill toys, including yo-yos, poi, and others, as well as totally unique styles of play. The idea is to use the different structural elements in order to create different patterns of motion, isolated tricks, and combinations. You'll find a solid base of tutorials introducing different styles of play, tricks, and tips for getting started on our tutorial playlist.

Dubulo was first developed in 2003, partially in response to trends seen with other toys, including other skill toys, becoming increasingly high tech and complicated. Dubulo was an attempt to get back to a more basic kind of play that was not reliant on precision engineering, and would offer a rewarding experience for beginners learning their first tricks, as well as having the depth to allow advanced players to come up with far more technical moves.

Dubulo allows for both individual tricks and continuous flow which links tricks together. One of the unique features of the toy is that there is rarely a drop or a "reset" required. When a trick is missed, it is relatively easy for players to recover by linking their play with a different move instead.

Fun, easy to pick up, and the glow is awesome!

Got these about a week ago, and they've been a blast. Took maybe an hour to really start feeling comfortable with em, but they're fun as heck after that. The glow in the dark is incredible as well. So cool!!! If you're just starting out, I'd recommend trying it in the dark. They look crazy even if your movements are awkward, just make sure you have some space. :p
